Otaku ME Mini 4WD Grand Prix 2019 – Stage Four Review
4 stages down, 2 more to go! The Otaku ME MINI 4WD Grand Prix had been creating a lot of noise in the hobby industry and the local community that resulted in a huge number of admirable participants along with hundreds of onlookers at the Time Square Center.
With the growing number of curious individuals and the overwhelming response of the racing community, this competition will seal our attempt to bring MINI 4WD racing history not only in the UAE but in the Middle East.
Stage 4 of the Otaku ME Grand Prix is all about innovations and surprises.
Each of our main race stages progressively gets more difficult. Stage 4 was by far the most sophisticated layout where the track itself, aptly named “Labyrinth”, had several challenging obstacles:
As usual, the Mini 4WD racers had to analyze the track's layout to optimize their car's performance to handle the hurdles which often includes adding a wide variety of FRP plates to strengthen the chassis and weights and brake pads to add stability.
One of the more infamous gimmicks that we introduced in Stage 4 is the Flapper, an obstacle layout that was borrowed from races in Japan. This made the participants think differently and strategize better.
Champion: Ryan Ortega
1st Place: Jem Salas
2nd Place: Joselito Ong
This edition of the Grand Prix definitely did not lack the excitement and drama of professional competition as we saw heartbreaks and frustrations in the faces of the Tamiya Mini 4WD racers as their cars we’re thrown off the track on the brink of winning.
In the end, luck is no longer enough to win. One needs to have the skills, experience, better strategy and an eye for analyzing complex race tracks.
